RUHS Ultrasound Fellowship Overview

One-Year Ultrasound Fellowship beginning July 1, 2024

The Department of Emergency Medicine, Division of Ultrasonography at Riverside University Health System (RUHS), offers a one-year Advanced Emergency Medicine Ultrasonography Fellowship Program. This is newly accredited by the Advanced Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship Accreditation Council (EUFAC) that is opened to EM Residency trained physicians who are ABEM certified or board eligible. We accept two (2) applicants annually.

Our Fellowship is based on the current EUFAC guidelines and additional requirements that are specific to our institution. The RUHS, Emergency Department is a busy, high-acuity Level 1 Trauma Center, and Pediatric Trauma Center with an annual census of more than 95,346 patients. The RUHS ultrasound program has a unique focus integrating POCUS into resuscitation including advanced hemodynamic instruction and resuscitative transesophageal echocardiography.

The fellowship is designed as a part-time attending position in the RUHS Emergency Department, working approximately 16 hours a week, supervising EM (PGY1-3), pediatric, internal medicine and advanced practice providers. In addition, fellows are expected to devote approximately 30 hours a week to ultrasound related activities.

Our educational mission is to prepare each fellow to hone their ultrasonography skills in order to become a successful leader in both academic and clinical settings. The development of leaders with special expertise that will oversee administrative facets to teach new technology with the ability to gain familiarity with the administrative and policy topics of Point-Of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS).

Korbin Haycock, MD

Fellowship Director

Korbin Haycock, MD, FACEP, RDCS, RDMS, NBE CCE

Dr. Haycock is an accomplished Emergency Medicine physician, with a particular focus on utilizing echocardiography and Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) for assessing hemodynamics and resuscitation. He is a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer, and is board-certified by the National Board of Echocardiography in Critical Care Echocardiography. Dr. Haycock holds the position of Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics at Loma Linda University School of Medicine, where he also serves as a core faculty member of the RUHS EM Residency Program. He is actively engaged in clinical practice at Riverside University Health Systems Medical Center, Loma Linda University Medical Center, and Desert Regional Medical Center. With over 20 years of experience in Emergency Medicine, Dr. Haycock has emerged as a distinguished leader in clinical medicine, academics, and critical care.
